Who said you can only have coffee and pastries during teatime? Introducing Floccusfloccus, a newly opened gem located above Fung Wong Biscuit in KL’s Chinatown. You’ll spot the entrance by its Ang Ku Kuih-shaped doorknob—a hint of the creativity waiting inside.

This innovative cafe brings a modern twist to traditional kuih, staying true to their slogan, “traditional taste reinvented.” Here, you can savour traditional Ang Ku Kuih in the form of sushi, and Chai Kuih shaped like cute little goldfish!

Kuih, But Make It Cute

At Floccusfloccus, kuih is more than just a snack—it’s an edible work of art. Instead of the usual oval-shaped Ang Ku Kuih, you’ll find kuih that looks like pieces of salmon sushi, baby seals, or gold fishes.

The fillings, though, stay true to Malaysian roots—think mung bean, gula Melaka, shredded coconut, and sweet potato. The colourful outer layer is soft and chewy, giving you that comforting texture we all love, but with a visual twist that makes you want to take a photo before you take a bite.

Highlights from the regular menu include:

Siew Yoke Kuih – a playful twist on kuih lapis, crafted to look exactly like crispy roast pork, complete with “fat” and “skin” layers.

Goldfish Chai Kuih – delicate dumplings shaped like koi, filled with savoury jicama.

Seal Mochi – soft glutinous rice balls with adorable faces and a mochi-like bite.

When Spongebob Met Kuih: The Bikini Bottom Buddies

Drawing inspiration from the recent viral Pop Mart blind box craze, Floccusfloccus introduced kuih shaped like the iconic Limp Fish and Flat Fish—complete with their funny faces, droopy expressions, and coloured pants.

Each kuih was carefully shaped and filled with dark chocolate paste, showing the brand’s attention to detail. It was a perfect example of how Floccusfloccus blends nostalgia, pop culture, and local food into one unforgettable bite.

These limited-edition treats are available for pre-order only, so if you’re planning to try them, don’t forget to place your order through their Instagram – @floccusfloccus first!

Beyond Cute—It’s a Culture

While the designs are cute and playful, the meaning behind Floccusfloccus runs deeper. It’s about reconnecting with culture in a way that speaks to the younger generation. For many millennials and Gen Z Malaysians, traditional kuih can feel old-fashioned or only for festive occasions. But Floccusfloccus is changing that mindset—bringing local heritage into everyday life in a fun, modern way.

So if you’re tired of the usual croissants and cakes, why not treat yourself to something local, nostalgic, and unexpectedly adorable?

Whether you’re a lifelong kuih lover or trying it for the first time, Floccusfloccus will leave you smiling—with your camera roll full and your heart (and belly) happy.
